About Mathura:
Situated 56 kms from Agra, Mathura is a pilgrimage town situated on
the banks of river Yamuna. Better known as the Braj Bhoomi, Mathura
is a famous hindu revered destination as it is the birthplace of
Lord Krishna. Counted amongst the seven sacred cities of India,
Mathura past dates back to 600 BC and was once into limelight during
Mauryan era.
Tourist Attraction:
Jama Masjid
This mosque was constructed by four loft minarets with brightly
colored plaster mosaic. It was built by Nabir Khan in the year 1661
A.D.
Dwarkadheesh Temple:
The Dwarkadheesh temple was constructed in the year 1841 and during
the festive days of Holi, Janamashtmi and Diwali as the temple is
grandly decorated.
Govardhan Hill
The hill was formed in the shape of peacock and is about 16 miles
high and was built 5,000 years ago. The hill was shaped in the pose
of peacock. It is believed that the hill is sinking by the height of
a mustard seed daily as it was cursed by Pulastya Muni.
Archeological Museum
The museum showcases finest collection of archaeological interest.
The museum has the richest and by far the most important collection
of Mathura school of sculptures..The museum provides perhaps the
best material available for the study of Indian art and Iconography.
