The city of Agra, which constitutes one angle of the Golden
Triangle circuit, has got it all - monuments, museums, an old city,
pilgrimage places and some excellent getaways. The getaways from
Agra provide for a change from the hustle and bustle of the city
into the lands of peace and devotion. A majority of these place as
such constitute of sacred spots and pilgrimage centers.
The deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri is 37 kms. The city complex is
about 8 sq.kms in area and built in sandstone. There are many
tourist attractions within Fatehpur Sikri city. Mathura is an
important sacred place for Hindu community and is only 47 kms from
Agra. Vrindavan likewise is only 10 kms from Agra. Both of these
places are pilgrimage centers for Hindu community as these places
are believed to be the bearing grounds of Lord Krishna. . Twenty
five kms further of Fatehpur Sikri and about 60 kms from Agra is the
famous bird retreat, Keola deo Ghana National Park. For bird lovers
the place is a real gift on earth as thousands of residential and
migratory birds breed over there. The Keetham Lake or Sur Sarovar is
a serene place and ideal for excursion. The place is 23 kms from
Agra city. The Ferozabad district and Aligarh district respectively
are about 44 and 38 kms away from Agra. These districts are
important commercial centers and houses glass manufacturing units
and the famous academic institute (Aligarh Muslim University).
